This is an overview of seat reservation fees for domestic trains in Europe. We'll show you when a reservation is mandatory, recommended or optional.

ÖBB Railjet trains
- Reservation optional.
- Fees - 1st and 2nd class: 6 euros
WESTbahn trains
- 1st class pass holders can upgrade to PLUS service.
- This will give you an additional seat for comfort, a drink, a newspaper and individual service.
- Fees - 1st class: 8.50 euros.
- Upgrade can only be booked on the train.
Belgium
Trains to/from Brussels airport
- Supplement only. Can be bought in the station, in the train or online at www.belgianrail.be.
- Fees - 1st and 2nd class: 4.50 euros
Bulgaria
Express (Ekspresen) trains
- Reservation type: compulsory.
- Fees - 1st class: 0.25 euros (BGN 0.50)*
*The currency of Bulgaria is the Bulgarian lev (BGN).
Croatia
ICN Zagreb - Split
- Reservation compulsory.
- Fees - 1st and 2nd class: 3.60 euro (HRK 27.60)*
IC Zagreb - Rijeka/Osijek/Cakovec
- Reservation compulsory.
- Fees - 1st and 2nd class: 3.60 euro (HRK 27.60)
*The currency of Croatia is the Croatian kuna (HRK).
Czech Republic
IC/EC (domestic journeys)
- Reservation recommended.
- Fees - 1st and 2nd class: 3.60 euros (CZK 97)*
SC SuperCity
- Reservation compulsory. Includes newspaper and catering in 1st class.
- Fees - 1st and 2nd class: 8 euros (CZK 220)
*The currency of the Czech Republic is the Czech koruna (CZK).
Denmark
InterCity / InterCity Lyn
- Reservation recommended.
- Fees - 1st and 2nd class: 4 euros (DKK 30)*
*The currency of Denmark is the Danish krone (DKK).
Finland
InterCity
- Reservation recommended, price depends on distance.
- Fees - 1st class: 27 euros
- Fees - 2nd class: 21 euros
Pendolino
- Reservation recommended, price depends on distance
- Fees - 1st class: 11 euros
- Fees - 2nd class: 9 euros
- There's a limited number of seats (and beds) available for pass holders on the InterCités and InterCités de Nuit trains.
- Make your reservations for these trains as soon as possible.
InterCités
- Reservation mandatory or recommended (depending on train).
Trains with mandatory reservations

InterCités de Nuit
- Reservation mandatory.
- Prices can be seasonal and vary according to the type of accommodation.
- Fees - 10 euros for a reclining seat, 21 euros for a couchette
TGV
- Reservation mandatory.
- Fees - 1st and 2nd class: 10 euros (if all 10 euro seats are booked, the reservation fee will be 20 euros)

ICE/IC/EC
- Reservation optional.
- Fees - 1st class: 6 euros
- Fees - 2nd class: 6 euros
EuroCity Berlin-Warszaw/Gdynia Express (domestic journeys)
- Reservation compulsory.
- Fees - 1st class: 3.60 euros
- Fees - 2nd class: 3.60 euros
Greece
IC (Inter City)
- Reservation mandatory and free of charge.
Hungary
EC (domestic journeys)
- Reservation compulsory.
- Fees - 1st and 2nd class: 3.60 euros (HUF 1110)*
IC
- Reservation compulsory.
- Fees - 1st and 2nd class: 3 euros (HUF 910)
IP
- Reservation compulsory.
- Fees - 1st and 2nd class: 0.50 euros (HUF 152)

Ireland
IC
- Reservation optional, can be made locally or online at www.irishrail.ie
- Fees - 3 euros (no class distinction)
Italy
EuroCity (domestic journeys) and Le Frecce / Frecciarossa / Frecciargento / Frecciabianca - formerly known as Eurostar Italia)
- Reservation compulsory.
- Fees - 1st class: 15 euros and 2nd class: 10 euros
InterCity: InterCityNotte, Expresso (only seats)
- Reservation recommended.
- Fees - 1st and 2nd class: 3 euros
- All compulsory and optional reservations for passholders can be purchased via Trenitalia at 'Global Pass' fare.
- This is also availabe as E-ticket via Trenitalia appointed agencies in Europe and overseas and on www.trenitalia.com.
- In the Frecciarossa trains, which offer four service levels
- 1st class pass holders are welcome in Business Class
- 2nd class pass holders in Standard Class.
EuroCity (via Brennero)
- Reservation compulsory. This train is operated by DB-ÖBB.
- Fees - 1st class: 13 euros
- Fees - 2nd class: 9 euros
Netherlands
InterCity Direct (formerly known as Fyra)
- Supplement compulsory.
- Fees - 1st class: 3 euros / 2nd class: 2.30 euros
- No supplement required on the route Amsterdam – Schiphol.
Norway
- Reservations for most Norwegian trains are shown as optional in the Timetable.
- However, we advise you to always make reservations in Norway, because trains often get fully booked.
Long distance trains
- Reservation highly recommended.
- "Komfort" class available for 1st class pass holders with no cost if reservation is made locally.
- 2nd class pass holders pay 11.40 euros (NOK 95)* for an upgrade to "Komfort" class.
- Fees - 2nd class: 6 euros (NOK 50)
- Fees - 1st class (Komfort): free
Flåm (scenic train route)
- Reservation highly recommended.
- Reduced price for Eurail pass holders (30% discount)

Poland
IC, TLK and EIC (domestic carriage) trains
- Reservation compulsory.
- Free of charge, if reservation is made in Poland.
EIP (ExpressIC Premium)
- Reservation compulsory.
- If a reservation is made abroad, an extra charge of 10 euros (PLN 43) must be paid on the train.
- If a reservation is made in Poland, you pay only the surcharge of 10 euros (PLN 43) at the ticket counter.
Domestic night trains
- Reservation compulsory.
- These are regular PKP InterCity trains with sleeper cars.
- Fees - from 13.25 euros (PLN 53) for a 6-bed couchette to 68.25 euros (PLN 273) for a Single sleeper.

Portugal
Alfa Pendular and IC
- Reservation compulsory (can only be made locally).
- Fees - 1st and 2nd class: 5 euros
Romania
IC/IR (domestic journeys)
- Reservation compulsory (can only be made locally)
- IC Fees - 1st and 2nd class: 3.60 euros (RON 16.20)*
- R Fees - 1st and 2nd class: 1 euro (RON 4.50)
IC (international journeys)
- Reservation compulsory (can only be made locally).
- Fees - 1st and 2nd class: 3 euros (RON 13.50)

Serbia
ICS Beograd - Novi Sad / Subotica / Prijepolje
- Reservation compulsory.
- Supplement only, can be bought in the station or train.
- Fees - 1st and 2nd class: 4 euros (RSD 466)*
*The currency of Serbia is the Serbian dinar (RSD).
Slovakia
Inter City trains
- Reservation compulsory.
- Fees - 1st class: 7 euros
- Fees - 2nd class: 5 euros
ICS trains (domestic journeys)
- Reservation compulsory.
- Fees - 1st class: 4 euros
- Fees - 2nd class: 4 euros
Spain
Arco, Talgo, Diurno
- Reservation compulsory
- Fees – Preferent 1st class: 10 euros
- Fees - Tourist 2nd class: 6.50 euros.
Avant
- Reservation compulsory.
- Fees: 4 euros (no class distinction)
AVE
- Reservation compulsory.
- 1st class includes drink and meal - except on Saturdays.
- Fees - Preferent 1st class: 23.50 euros
- Fees - Tourist 2nd class: 10 euros
Euromed, Alvia, Altaria
- Reservation compulsory.
- 1st class includes drink and optional meal.
- The Euromed doesn't serve meals on Saturdays.
- Fees - Preferent 1st class: 23.50 euros (or 10 euros without the optional meal)
- Fees - Tourist 2nd class: 6.50 euros
TRD / MD
- Reservation compulsory.
- Fees - 4.50 euros (no class distinction)
Sweden
InterCity and Regional trains
- Reservation recommended.
- Fees - 1st and 2nd class: 3 euros (SEK 27)*
SJ High Speed trains
- Reservation compulsory.
- 1st class includes breakfast before 9:00, WiFi, fruit, coffee, tea all day.
- Fees - 1st class: 17 euros (SEK 150)
- Fees - 2nd class: 7 euros (SEK 62)
Inlandsbanan (scenic train)
- Reservation recommended.
- Fees - 1st and 2nd class: 5 euro (SEK 44)
Snälltåget (Malmö – Stockholm)
- Reservation compulsory.
- 1st class class includes a light meal.
- Fees – 1st class: 15 euros (SEK 133)
- Fees - 2nd class: 5 euros (SEK 44)

Switzerland
Bernina Express
- Reservation only compulsory for special panorama train.
- Fees in summer: 11.50 euros (CHF 13.50)*

- Connecting bus between Tirano and Lugano: 13 euros (CHF 15)
Chocolate Train
- Fees 1st class: 53 euros (CHF 59)
- Fees 2nd class: 44 euros (CHF 49)
Glacier Express
- Fees in high season (June 16 - September 19): 43 CHF (37 euros)
- Fees in mid season (March 30 - June 15 / September 17 - October 14): 33 CHF (27 euros)
- Fees in low season (December 10 - March 29): 23 CHF (20 euros)
Golden Pass
- Reservation only compulsory for special panorama train.
- Check the Golden Pass website for more information.
IC trains (domestic)
Fees: € 4.50 (CHF 5)

Turkey
- Reservation for long distance trains is optional.
- There are no fees.
